I recently read about IPv6 and what China’s plans are in the domain.

Interested to hear other thoughts and what this means for India & Indian entrepreneurs.

- IPv6 and India - July 31, 2006
There is now a IPv6 Portal in India to encourage the development of IPv6 techonology. I would urge interested people to participate in enhancing this site for the benefit of IPv6 developments in India.
There is an IPv6 Forum chapter in India to drive awareness and deployment in India since September 2000.
IPv6 is already a national priority with H.E Ho’ble Minister Dayanidhi Maran including it in his 10 point agenda for the country (since 2004). The Union ministry is very active in IPv6 related efforts in the country.
FYI Pakistan is way behind India in IPv6. They created a national IPv6 Forum chapter only two weeks ago.
In the US – the main driver is the North American IPv6 Task Force (http://www.nav6tf.org) who convinced US DoD regarding IPv6 adoption.
The nodal point in each of these countries are national IPv6 Task Forces (especially in EU that come under European IPv6 Task Force which again comes under European Commission). Coalition Summit is a private body, not a national task force with official authority.

Yes, indeed. This is the first blog piece or any piece I have encountered reg india and IPv6!
Certainly not a mainstream interest for sure, let alone in trade circles.
Let me plot some data points vis a vis us and China:
– IPv6 initiative predominantly US and its allies with Korea and Japan key drivers.USA by 2008 – full implementation expected
– Since Japan is a key driver (an ubiquitious network by 2010), can China be far behind!
-Even Pakistan is ahead of India in understanding implementation/migration issues to v6 from v4!Thats news to many, I guess !
-In the US, their Senate led by Sen Tom Davis and the Fed govt are the biggest drivers ,and within the Fed, Homeland Security and DoD. And within the DoD, are the Military CIO’s.(Ref OMB Memo 0-5-22 to all Fed Govt CIO’s) +100 top Cos
-They are all approaching it like the Y2k problem with the same level of intensity and investment…for them it is the y2k of this century!
-Transition and Protocols issue dominate the transition/implementation agenda with mobility and security close behind
-To drive home the message and ensure painless transition there are nodal points in each of these countires and then one bndal point for all Countries making that transition viz the Coalition Summit, with their own secretariat!). The entire formal and mandated initiative is about 2 years old!
It is clear where India stands with ref to above !Albeit, there was/is (?)a committee to ‘examine’ v6 w.r.t India.
I guess we need to get on the bandwagon, else play catch up.
