Here is a list of top web apps in India from Read/write web.
Not very impressive compilation. Reproducing my comment on the post:
Somewhat surprising to see the real web apps of India missing. Look at top sites in India on Alexa.
India is still a very email, search, portal, jobs, matrimony country. Online financial services is another area which this article has missed… Digg clones, movie rentals, real estate, photo sharing might be “interesting” but hardly qualify to be in the list for “top web apps in india”
bollywood is another popular category (per alexa) that got missed here — indiafm, smashits, etc.
railway booking, irctc.com — 5 million transactions a year…

Hi, nice to read your valuable input from India.
Myself based in London and starting to be a little sceptic about our logorea on WEB2.0 . WHy ?
I fear expectations won’t be deceived by practice and practival facts, as they did some years ago when every one in europe was dreaming about UMTS as the new even for telcos. We did all forget the huge amount of money needed to be invested. Here it is not direct money , it is huge amounts of time and manpower needed to totally rebuild Web 2.0 application , and this might still take a few couple of years…may be just at least as much time as to go for UMTS…because amounts of money needed to be invested in future to support developments for “all application to be web2.0” , are definitively tremendous.
One issue about optimizing money is doing better with what we have, and in that sense I feel the guys from FirstMillionEuros website (for any startup & investors) which I recently came across might have pointed out some good topic with the light pixel advertising-buy pixel- mode).
I looks like this website has just started , but it could be a good opportunity for young IT entrepreneurs in India, seeking seed money or capital funds, to promote their ideas and tap into European investors capability through this site for example( link is http://www.firstmillioneuros.eu ).
Founder of http://www.pdstext.com may be the lucky man indeedas there might be some european (or worlwide) investors interested to bring funds to some startup venture in India (in the general offshoring trend of industry), to boost its development for the promising local (in tamil) market .
Well well , who knows ?

Mr Vinay,
Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Krish
You don’t need to register to search from http://www.pdstext.com. Signing up is mandatory only for using the word processor. I guess I need to clarify that on the homepage.
It is inconceivable that a search engine can require registration, that too in this day and age. We want to keep things as simple as possible. Thanks for the feedback.
Cram,
The “sign up” part will botch up all your good work. Why not let someone simply walk in and search…? How many user id and Password can a person remember ( he may well do it for his Bank A/c, trading a/c but definitely not for search engines )
That too when you are in vernacular domain, make it as easy as possible.
I think so if there is a need in the Indian Market for this or abroad, its a success. The key is to understand that such practices are very keenly appreciated where downtime is very expensive, such as trading applications etc. I think so your first client can be in these industries and if it is proven that your stuff works there, then, sky is the limit, as automation is driving each and every piece of our life, the key is to focus on automations that cannot be allowed to fail without prior warning. I think so I have reviewed some companies of this nature when I was with some wall street banksin the US.
I think so there is a market for the right product always, as long as people NEED it they will take it.
