Hello guys..
I want some views on education industry outlook in India specifically, school level (primary & secondary)…I am thinking of a business where school will pay some amount per student for services provided.. What i am not sure of is the appetite of schools to have paid value added service… Also it would be helpful if we can have a discussion on the business approach of “Educomp”…

Educomp, from what I understand has several business lines – some of it focussed on the domestic market and some of it on the international market. I have always found it intriguing on how they can manage the separate lines of business but i do not know whether there is any one line which has significantly greater contribution to topline.
I believe that the education market in India has many untapped potential. Tutoring including online tutoring has possibilities. So is a consoliudation of the very many tutoring houses into a national brand with consistent quality (think of Sylvan as a global benchmark).
I believe that the business model should be targetted to parents and chidren (that is it should be a more conusmer model) rather than targetted to teachers. Parents in India do spend on education and it is a priority and the returns on creating a retail brand are going to be far higher than the returns from investments in sales cycles to schools.
One specific gap area – however – is creating a finising school services for engineering and management schools. Given that in India the vast majority of these graduates are unemployable I believe that there is potential to build specific “employment enhancement curriculam and certification”. I think colleges might be willing to pay for this very specialized service – just a gut feel.
