Canaan and TiE are organizing an event for consumer marketing professionals in packaged goods, media, financial services, telecom and other such consumer industries – people who might be interested in entrepreneurship but don’t know where to start. Specific focus is on internet related opportunities. If you can think of people you know who might be interested, please feel free to pass it along. There is a registration process but no fee. We are keen to keep it as a limited group of very relevant people with about 8-15 years of consumer experience.
The event is scheduled on 26th May at the India Habitat Centre, Delhi.
The agenda includes understanding of the opportunity space, capital ecosystem, and how to navigate risks and opportunity costs. The event will be highly interactive, and hence limited to a few participants. Participants would include myself, Sanjeev Bikhchandani from Infoedge/Naukri, and Sanjay Anandram from Jumpstartup.
Please contact digbijoy@tienewdelhi.org for registrations.

I attended this event today in Delhi and as an investor found the interaction useful.
Alok, had a slide which said that the revenue that all internet companies in India put together will make in India in 2007 is US$ 240 million.
This is avery low number when one considers that just PayPal alone makes over $1 billion in revenue.
I am convinced that by 2012 the US$240 million number will be atleast 10 times which means that there is opportunity.
I remember looking at listed companies at end of 2003 and I was amazed that the 500th largest company in India was around 20 crores. At the end of 2006 I wonder what that number is but it is probably well north of 100 crores. Then I made the mistake of not investing all that aggressively in listed equities because I could not understand why valuations were so low and the potential for explosive growth. Could someone verify if my numbers are correct.
I hope not to make the same mistake twice. There are lots of reasons why growth may not be exponential as I am sure there were in 2003 for listed companies but I for one am ready to bet with the optimists.
I am looking at internet-related opportunities especially in the consumer internet space and hence I would be keen on attending this kind of event.
Do you have plans to conduct a similar one in Bangalore in the near future?
I could potentially take responsibility of organizing this event as well.
Thanks,
Shyam
