i was going through some recent VC posts about upcoming boom in e-learning websites ( in India ). I tried to look around, but couldn’t find any indian/global website with significant innovation in that area. Can someone point me to a good resource/website ?
I somehow believe, hosting videos and lecture notes coupled with some worksheets is not key to solving this problem.
And at the same time, i have a gut feel that a good learning portal (not restricted to just education) can attract really huge volumes/hits. A patent search on e-learning would help you understand what i am trying to point at.

How about Massive Multiplayer Online Learning.. Techcrunch had an article on it. One company my name Gockit, http://gmat.gockit.com are doing it.. Probably that would be a new direction, like social learning.. We learn with our peers, there is only mentors and no lectures.. Kind of self-learning, self-discovery etc…
I was thinking of implementing it, but it seems too big for a single person.. Lets see how it turns up.
The concept of learning as I see it should be based on discovery and not based replication of classroom with some extras throw-in . There are lots of innovation’s possible. check out http://www.secondlife.com or http://www.electrocity.co.nz to understand what I mean here.
It can explode into a huge market, there is a lot of traction in this space in Europe. However, the key is to discovery and monetize this space.
any bootstrapping?
number of applications filed in the domain is alarmingly high. Also take a look at – http://www.google.com/patents?q=elearning&btnG=Search+Patents
huge number of patents trying to solve the same problem, in not very different ways.
Yeah, most websites are similar – take courses, tests. I have heard VCs complain that there has not been any significant innovation in this field.
Could you please elaborate more on what you meant in the last paragraph? Did you mean that just like a patent search portal attracts huge hits, any good learning portal can? Sorry for sounding dumb 🙂
I also strongly believe that there is a need of a innovative e-learning solution coupled with m-learning.
