WebWorkerDailyhas an interesting post on 12 Ways to Use Facebook Professionally:
Facebook has to be the most talked about, and the most misunderstood, web service/platform right now. If you haven’t gotten drawn in by the hype, it may surprise you to learn that many people have already found Facebook to be an essential addition to their web working toolbox. Why? Because the Facebook social networking experience can be precisely what you want to make of it. Think of Facebook as a professional tool, and that’s what it is. It doesn’t matter how millions of high school and college students are using Facebook to get out of doing homework. You can make it into whatever you want, even your own personal media broadcasting channel.
Let’s look at 12 ways Facebook can benefit the web worker, particularly those who are home-based. The more connected you are to your co-workers and clients without being intrusive, the better your working relationship.

The psychology around social networks in India is voyeurism for the most part. WATCH more than DO. With Facebook, the idea is different.
Well, not exactly. Research has shown that Facebook covers a variety of ages – the distinguishing factor is that people on Facebook tend to be more educated. (comparing with, say Orkut in India)
This obviously came out of the initial joining barriers that facebook set wherein you had to be a company professional (with a valid company email address) or a student at a school recognized by facebook.
This research which I’m talking about typically contrasts the crowd on a Myspace Vs. Facebook level.
Regarding using FB professionally, here is another idea. There is a certain FB application (html box) which can be used to display html on your profile. Why not show off a small flash animation explaining a visitor what your company does…
the joke is that only in India most of the facebook crowd is 27+, whereas in the rest of the world its all under 21.
Meaning that Indians do way too much timepass in office: poking each other, updating status and and adding the latest rate me applications hahaha
