Krish, why don’t you send me a more detailed email ( bipin.p.singh@gmail.com) and let me take a stab at it.
Thanks Bipin, that would be great help…
There are several such teams that just got bogged down by Investor perceptions that can’t be easily dismantled.
I also have a client with a telemedicine prototype (device) that could be a breakthrough to connect GPs and specialists (esp. cardiology), that would enable instant diagnosis and prescription through remote wireless access. Do you think this feature could be fused into a mobile app and discard the device altogether…?
Let me see if I can find some report that proves or disproves what I claimed . Will email you. Btw, In-stat is a good resource if you have membership.
Bipin,
You say “I don’t think(just my view) majority of Indian users per se care about quality of wireless communication when buying a cellphone. That quality they ascribe mainly to carriers(Airtel network is better etc etc).”
Do you mean *majority* of Indian users buy phones for multimedia features (meaning high end phones)..?
I would love to look at some revenue statistics, anything, anything will do… I have a few clients who are dying to establish something like that to their investors…
Please.
Krish, mobile VAS usage and multimedia features also have nothing in common. You get phones for 2000 INR these days which can play top quality FM and have a VGA camera. Doesn’t mean the user will download ringtones or video or anything else. My undertanding from purely device point of view is that more and more demand is reducing unit cost of these features like inbuilt camera/mp3 player/browser etc. I agree with you that fundamentally mobile and PC are meant for different applications but who can predict what the customers want? Maybe they do want to watch youtube clips on their mobiles 🙂 You see how iPhone’s large touchscreen display has prompted similar, yet cheaper, products from LG and Samsung. Soon ,you might(actually will) have even cheaper Chinese phones.
