Given the mess that our political system is in, I wonder why professionals have not seriously looked at creating a political startup. Present service providers have been providing low quality services for decades in what really should be a buyers’ market given that we are a democratic country. People have been crying for a better deal but those who can make a difference seem to be indifferent.
The present political parties are beset with the following problems which in turn have resulted in a loss making entity called India.
1. Corruption at the highest levels of governement and the bureaucracy
2. Short sighted decisions based on electoral concerns
3. Putting self (i.e. power) before national interest
4. Nexus with criminals and businessmen
5. Low level of education
These are all surmountable if the political party consists of highly motivated professionals who run the show (and the country) like any well managed company which treats the shareholders (citizens in this case) with respect.
The founders will require a transformational mindset.
The opportunity is huge and so is the required investment. Are there any VCs/Angels willing to invest in a political party startup which will function like any professionally managed company and provide a clean and effective government?
I would love to be part of such a startup. We owe to ourselves if not to the country. If anyone in this community of entrepreneurs is interested do let me know.

It wont work because we are a democracy.
The ugly thing about democracy is that you need to achieve majority inorder to make a change, and in most cases, the easiest way to achieve that majority, or atleast get that attention is either by a) being under the wing of someone who has or b)becomes a dictatory and takes up he entire nation – atleast for a while or c) strikes terror to gain attention.
You see the problem here.
And if you want to do it the normal way of getting people joining you, everybody sooner or later has an agenda, and unfortunately thanks to the current political system, the agendas are usually selfish and people arent going to expect anything otherwise, unless you radically change what politics itself means.
The third huge problem will come when the numbers add up. Do you hold enough of a charisma to keep them all together and get them in the vision/ideology of the “company”? The issue will always be that, unlike a typical CEO, this CEO will be all over the news and splashed on centrefolds, and others would want the spotlight and if and when they do, and they dont have things going their way, they would want to split.
You stop there and realize, that we are back at square one. Politics primarily aims at the weakness that we have as humans – selfish and greed. True democracy is very hard to achieve, unless the bar is raised on a whole lot of other things as well.
its wounderfull idea. i strongly belive the people who has ability and understand at this leavel please come forward and take ownerships. we keep hearing rules needs to be changed. the way govt works needs to be changed. law and order.. etc etc. but all that remains restricted till the blog. we all know this is the main couase of falier of any govt. so please we all are with you
As we have all observed that any organization where political attitude enter to any individual into the system figures of the organizations starts declining. If we think of ” Political Startup ” it will not work as of now. As RTI [ Right To Information Act ] where every Public employee is responsible for the reply to the citizen , even the system is not successful because of political interference. Even the initiative is taken it will be more focused to represent an individual party in w.r.t. to concept.
In pune, there is already one such initiative. I believe there will be many such small startups across India. They may need to merge to have some impact.
