heard travelguru is getting acquired by expedia?
Old Hand, WNS’ acquisition of Marketics was an expensive one even when the markets were high – believe $65M or so for $4M in revenues. Most stuff now is 3-4x revenues.
Has anyone here got an idea of valuations of KPO firms. I heard valuations were high when Marketics got acquired by WNS but now (when the acqusitions wave could finally start for smaller firms) the multiples seem to be heading south because of US recession of $ rate. Do post any vibes you may have heard on KPOs, their valuations, etc
Search start-up from ex-Googlers promises ‘new approach’
A search company founded by ex-Google and IBM employees landed $25 million in new venture funding this week, but remains in stealth mode with no indication of when its technology will be publicly available.
The search start-up, Cuill (pronounced “cool”), has reportedly told investors that it can crawl the Web at about one-tenth the cost of Google. Cuill’s Web site boasts of a “new approach to search” involving a Web crawler known as “Twiceler.” Details beyond that are scarce and Cuill didn’t immediately respond to an interview request from Network World Wednesday.

Asianet Satellite communications to launch Video-on-Demand service!
Asianet satcom, one of the largest cable & broadband network in Kerala is getting ready for the roll out of Video-ondemand service to it’s digital cable subscribers in Kerala. The company has partnered with Seachange for the technology. Currently they have close to 50,000 Settop box users in the Kerala and is giving a tough time to DTH players like Dish TV & Tata Sky . But the key challenges before Asianet will be in acquiring contents for the service, since most of VOD rights for Malayalam & Tamil movies since 2000 are with players like Asianet TV ( note that Asianet TV & Asianet cable are entirely different entities with the former owned by Rajeev chandrashekar & latter by Raheja group which also owns Hathway cable network), Sun TV etc. Further players like Reliance are putting in a lot of money to acquire contents for their proposed IPTV service since the last two years!
